1800 Front Fork Seals

Need help with your 1800? Upset that they don't make them anymore (don't worry, that means it's a collector's item)? This is the place.

1800 Front Fork Seals

Postby Tracker » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:19 pm

Has anyone replaced there Oil Seals themselves. because it looks like I need to swap out the right fork seals. The parts are available on Direct Line not that expensive $26.00 per side, and after reviewing the Service Manual it should only be couple hours of labor, but Here's the catch the job requires a Special FORK SEAL DRIVER 07KMD-KZ30100 priced at $183.00 and a 44 MM Lock Nut Wrench 07VMA-MZ0010A priced at $44.79 If I decide to do both left and right at the same time I will need these 2 tools. I just can't see myself forced to Spend 10 X the cost of parts just for the Tools to do the job. I could use some help locating / making the 2 tools.

http://www.bareasschoppers.com/tools/

Wasn't sure what the FORK SEAL DRIVER tool looks like, but after visiting this site I found I don't have the tools to make these 2 items, I can't remember but I thought someone had made the 44 MM Lock Nut Wrench at one time, not sure who? Has anyone all ready created these alternative replace tool that will do the work required and willing to loan them out?

Marty
Your bike is looking sharp. Great Job. Anyone can see that a lot of quality work, time was spent on your bike, getting it to where you will enjoy your travels on it.

Thanks for the loan of the socket , I appreciate the help. I have 1 1800 that is getting seals changed and 1 getting new springs and seals.

I noticed at least 1 other bike that was showing the same signs of being defective like mine has been doing. Please, Anyone that might have the same problem. Don't wait until the oil is spraying all over your tire creating a traveling oil slick, again like me... , if anyone wants to bring your bike over and work on the front forks. Let me know.

Thanks Again,
-Al

Well we finished the 2 1800's for 1 just front seals, fluid and seals / fluid plus progressive springs on the other. it's about a 75.00 seal parts & fluid and about 5 - 6 hours labor, the best after market add on is replacing the stock front springs with progressive springs. giving you the best bang for your buck.

I understand at least one other bike in the group has a front seal leaking all over the front wheel and we will be scheduling a down time to do the work, When I'm not sure, I guess we are waiting on parts to arrive. but I'll get this socket back to you as soon as we are done.

BTW- Marty, Did you get your Vacuum cruse control working?
